Librarian's Guide to LibGuides

This LibGuide provides step-by-step training, outlines best practices, defines quantifiable standards to which all LibGuide pages must adhere,

Guide Requirements

Before publishing, all LibGuides MUST comply with the following:

  • Every guide must have at least 2 sub-pages. 
  • Every page of the guide must have a friendly-URL
    • Do not change your friendly-URL once it has been created - people may be linking to it
  • Every guide must have the appropriate Subject selected. (Please contact the admin for guidance if you do not see a needed Subject.)
  • Every guide must have the appropriate Tags. (Keep in mind how users may search for this topic when selecting a tag. Also, please only select up to 5 tags).
  • Every Subject guide must have a Welcome box
  • Every guide must be properly categorized as a Course Guide, Subject/Topic Guide, or How-To Guide. (You can change this in "Guide Type and Group" found under the gear icon.)
  • If you want to create a guide for a specific database, add it to the Database Tutorial guide
  • Include the Contact Library Staff box on the left side of the landing page, directly under the Nav tabs
  • Include Profile Box on first page of a Subject/Topic or Course Guide

Rules for Maintaining LibGuide Content

Publishing Web content is a commitment to maintaining it. You also have the ability and responsibility to make your web content usable and accessible. All LibGuide content should undergo regular reviews.

Weeding of Published LibGuides

As a natural course of Web development, LibGuide pages may at times become unnecessary, or become a net negative on the user experience. In these situations, the pages should be removed from public view.

Page Names

All pages within the guide should follow the naming conventions listed below. NOTE: there will be some exceptions to this. If you have any questions, ask Kayla.
