Image Use and Copyright

Throughout the guide, use images to explain and reinforce your content.

  • When using photos, make sure it is a high-res photo and that you use alt-text.
    • Alt text can be added when photos are uploaded to LibGuides. Make sure the alt text explains what is in the photo in detail.

  • All guides should have a banner photo on the first page. 

Adding Images to Image Manager

2. Once the page opens, click on the green button to upload a photo. upload new image photo

 

3. Once the photo is uploaded, click on the image to add alt-text.

Adding Images to Text

To add an image, use the "Add/Reorder" dropdown at the bottom of your box and select "RichText/HTML."

This will open a Rich Text Editor where you can add and format both text and images. Add images using the landscape icon. Image of landscape icon used to add images to LibGuides.

As part of adding images, add Alternative Text in order to make images more accessible to users with screen readers.

Image Sizes

  • If you are using the "How-To" Guide template, the width of your image can be 850 pixels.
  • If you are using the "Subject/Topic" or "Course" Guide templates, the width of your image in the middle column can be 550 pixels wide.
  • If you are using the "Subject/Topic" or "Course" Guide templates, the width of your image in the right-hand column can be 240 pixels wide.

Copyright

Cite images with all relevant information including author, title, data accessed, URL, and any other relevant information.

Some of the image databases subscribed to by the library have specific rules for how images can be used. For example, ARTStor does not allow images from its collection to be used openly on the web, and cannot be used in LibGuides. Instead, look for images with a Creative Commons license.

Finding Images

Widener University and Wolfgram Memorial Library images can be found in the Shared Library folder. To access this folder, select the landscape button to add an image, click on "Browse Server" and switch from Personal Library to "Shared Library."
