Adding Books from the Catalog

An excellent way to highlight books, e-books, and other items that users should know about. Update the display frequently to keep the guide fresh.

To add a book from the catalog:

  1. Click on the Add / Reorder drop down menu at the bottom of a box and select Book from the Catalog.
  2. Enter the ISBN, then click Get Book Info.
    • This automatically searches for the book information such as Title, Author/Editor, Description, and the cover image (if the book info/cover image does not appear, you can search for the title on Amazon or Worldcat to locate alternative ISBNs for the title or enter the information manually). Note: You can clear the ISBN field once the information has populated, so that it does not display to users.
  3. Enter the Call Number
    • Be sure to include the location (REF, M Circulating, Reserve, etc.) along with the item's call number.
  4. In the URL section, enter the Permanent Link from the catalog
    • Do not copy the URL from the address bar for an item in the WebPAC.
  5. Description Display:
    • If you are trying to highlight 1 or 2 books, the display beneath item title option is optimal.
    • Though when creating a list of books, select the Hover over "info" icon option to avoid creating text heavy boxes that would require additional scrolling.
  6. Assign Resource Icons: Each book is required to have at least 1 resource icon assigned
    • There are icons available for both Print Books and eBooks in addition to the new icon
  7. Save

Reuse Existing Book

You can also "Reuse existing book," and select an item in one of your other guides or a book added to assets by another librarian.
