This guide provides quick access to the best resources at Widener University for conducting research related to theatre.

When searching for theatre resources, you may search for subject headings in several ways:

  • By country, such as "Theatre--Japan."
  • By adding additional topics, such as "Photography and Theatre" or "Political Theatre."
  • By the type of theatre, such as "Musical Theatre."
  • By the name of the person or known topic, such as "Shakespeare, William."
  • By the type of resource, such as "Theatre Dictionary."
  • By the type of discussion, such as "Theatre History" or "Theatre Criticism."

Note that some databases will use "theatre" and some will use "theater." Oftentimes, the suggestions above can be combined to make more specific subject headings, such as "Japanese Theatre History." The UNESCO Thesaurus offers several subject headings pertaining to "Theatre" such as "Ancient Theatre," "Opera," and "Puppets."
