Zotero Tutorial

Step by step instructions for the use of Zotero citation management software.

Mobile Zotero

The mobile version of zotero.org allows you to access and edit your Zotero library on your tablet or mobile phone.

The Zotero Bookmarklet allows you to save items from your mobile device's browser directly to your zotero.org account. The update to Zotero 5.0 version has left the bookmarklet functionality a bit buggy depending on your mobile device and browser choices. We suggest using a pc or laptop for best results.

While there are no official Zotero Standalones for mobile devices, there are several third party solutions that can enhance the mobile experience using zotero.

Install a "Bookmarklet"

Zotero's own solution to using the program in your tablet browser is the "Bookmarklet," a special bookmark you can add to your browser that will allow you to save a page you are reading to your Zotero library.

You must have a Zotero account, and your tablet must be online in order to use Bookmarklet.

  1. Open zotero.org/downloadbookmarklet in your browser and bookmark it.
  2. Click your device/browser (i.e., iPhone/iPad) and copy the code from the text box on the page.
  3. Edit the bookmark you just created.
  4. Change the bookmark name to "Save to Zotero".
  5. Paste the code from the text box as the URL for the bookmark.

Now, when you're on a page with a citation, you can use the Save to Zotero bookmark to save the citation directly to your Zotero library online.
