We recognize that we are on occupied land.
The indigenous peoples who lived in this area at the time of European contact are known variously as the Lenape Hak-ni, the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape, the Ramapo, and the Delaware. They are not gone.
We acknowledge the persistence of this ethnic group through a violent history that led to their relocation as far as Oklahoma, Kansas and Ohio.
Any native you meet is descended from some one who refused to be wiped out.
Knowingly or not, we use place names inherited from them such as Manayunk, Conshohocken, Kingsessing, and Neshaminy.
