Fine Arts & Art History

The Rijksmuseum is the national museum of the Netherlands. We tell the story of 800 years of Dutch history, from 1200 to now. In addition, we organize several exhibitions per year from our own collection and with (inter) national loans.

Crystal Bridges is committed to telling broad and inclusive stories by acquiring and showcasing the highest quality works by artists underrepresented in art history and conventional museum frameworks. Works such as Asher B. Durand’s Kindred Spirits, Gilbert Stuart’s George Washington, and Georgia O’Keeffe’s Jimson Weed are displayed alongside contemporary artists such as Kerry James Marshall, Maya Lin, Fritz Scholder, Jaune Quick-to-See-Smith, Félix González-Torres, and Amy Sherald, representing some of the finest achievements in American art. The collection continues to grow, while the museum also offers temporary exhibitions that complement the collection and can also reveal art’s connections to equality and justice.

Christopher Witcombe is a professor at Sweet Briar College in Virginia. For the past seven years he has collected URLs for thousands of web sites with art history information. They are organized by time period, style, and country. There are also links to museums around the world, organized by country, gallery web sites and virtual tours.

The National Arts Administration and Policy Publications Database is a bibliographic tool that enables users to access current and historical information on a multitude of topics related to arts administration and policy. Records in the database are classified into four types: Americans for the Arts archive, research abstracts, sample documents, and one pagers (infographics). The database contains over 7,000 bibliographic records—providing arts administrators, policy researchers, and advocates with information to help them locate information on arts policy and practice and arts administration resources and best practices. More recent entries to the database may also include the actual publication for download.
