How to move citations from RefWorks to Zotero

Move Citations (including folders) from RefWorks to Zotero!

  1. Login to your RefWorks account, locate and select the folder you want to import into Zotero.
  2. From the Quick Access box choose Export

  1. In the Export References pop-up box, choose the Export Format: Bibliographic Software (EndNote, Reference Manager, ProCite)

When you click the Export References button, a browser tab/window will appear with the reference information in simple text.

  1. Right-click in the new browser window and choose Save Page As…. Save the export on your desktop as a .txt file and name it to match your RefWorks folder.

  • Open your Zotero Standalone and select Import from the File menu:

  • Navigate to the file(s) you just saved from RefWorks and it will be imported into Zotero with the name you used to save it as its folder name.
  • Once the import is complete, the new folder containing the citations and the metadata tags will appear.
