- From the Library's Homepage, select A - Z Databases.
- View this alphabetical list that shows rich variety of databases available at Widener.
- Select A and then Academic Search Premier.
The following example uses the keywords college students AND risky behavior
Search Screen:
Important Features of the Initial Search Screen:
- Use the boxes provided to separate your search terms. In this example you are searching for articles that contain both the terms college students and risky behavior.
- Always check in the upper left corner of the search box that you are searching the database you intended, Many databases look exactly the same and ensuring you are searching the correct one gets you more relevant results.
- Limiting Your Search:
- Scroll down and under Limit your results select Peer Reviewed - With this you are ensuring that the articles come from only Peer Reviewed, Scholarly sources.
- Under Published Date, Limit to the last 10 years.
- Then select search.
Brief Results:
Important Features of the Brief Results:
- The brief results provide useful information about the article including:
- The hyperlinked title of the article
- The authors
- The Journal name, Date of Publication, Vol,, Issue and Page numbers
- A list of subjects assigned to the article.
- On the left side notice the Limit To box. This confirms your limited to Peer Reviewed and the Publication Date range 2021 t0 2022. You can also alter these limits here.
Detailed Record:
Important Features of the Detailed Record:
- Title: The title of the article appear in Bold.
- Hyperlinked Authors Names: Click on these names to find other works in this database.
- Hyperlinked Title of Source: Click on this source and search the journal for other articles on your topic.
- Date of publication, Vol, Issue and Page Numbers.: Use this information for your Works Cited,
- Hyperlinked Subject Terms: Click on these terms or use them as keywords for future searches.
- Note: Notice that the term college students is in bold - this means that this is a preferred term in this database. Yet instead of the term risky behavior, the term risk-taking behavior is in bold. This the the preferred term for this concept in this database. Using the preferred terms exactly as they appear in this list gets you more recent and relevant results.
- Try a search for college students and risk-taking behavior and see how your results differ.
- Abstract: This provides a useful summary of the article that will help you determine if it is relevant for your research.
